About

Hi there. I'm a New York Times writer based in Hong Kong. These days I mostly help to run the newspaper's live, digital coverage of the coronavirus pandemic.

Before this I freelanced for The Times, The Economist and The Associated Press, initially from Hanoi, Vietnam. And before moving to Asia I worked as a staff writer at Seven Days, an alternative weekly in Vermont.

My work has also appeared in National Geographic magazine, among others, and in 2019 I was part of a team of Times reporters who won a 2019 Human Rights Press Award for our coverage of a collapsing hydropower dam in Laos.

Here's how to follow and/or email me.

Mike
